We look forward to welcoming you online or in person as we start our Autumn Programme. Your messages, photographs and donations have been so encouraging as we have navigated these challenging times, not knowing if our efforts to highlight the Huguenots will continue.

The Huguenots of Soho with Dan Cruickshank – Online Zoom Lecture

Thursday 15th October – 12:00-13:00 (GMT)

 

To coincide with the launch of his latest book (Soho: A Street Guide to Soho’s History, Architecture and People), Dan guides us around the Soho of the last five hundred years, following the Huguenots who settled in the south and the precious metal trade that developed there.

Huguenot Footsteps: Soho*

Monday 19th October – 11:00am

Join Huguenot Guide, Guy Rowston, as he traces the Huguenots who settled here to be near the Royal Court, bringing with them skills and expertise to make the most sought after luxury goods that money could buy. Hear about Lamerie, Silversmith, Foubert’s Riding School and Roget’s birthplace, amongst many other characters.

Huguenot Footsteps: Spitalfields

Sunday 25th October – 12:00 noon

Spitalfields is always fun but it is even more so now that it is quieter than normal. Discover the streets where the weavers settled as our Guide, Neil Sinclair, points out historic facets of this most diverse area of London.

Amber Butchart: Huguenot Silks and Historical Fashions – Online Zoom Lecture

Thursday 29th October – 12:00-13:00 (GMT)

Many of you will have seen Amber, British Fashion Historian, on BBC's Civilisations: Our First Refugees and we are delighted that she is supporting our efforts by giving this talk charting the journey of Huguenot silk weavers from Spitalfields to Suffolk.

Dr Tessa Murdoch in Conversation with Miriam Hanid, Contemporary Silversmith -

Online Zoom Lecture

Thursday 5th November – 12:00-13:00 (GMT)

Edward Feline was a London goldsmith and an ancestor of Dr Murdoch, who married within the Huguenot community in Soho and then in Spitalfields. His second wife Magdalen took over the business after Edward's death in 1753 and her marked silver remains in country house and museum collections. Dr Murdoch will be joined by contemporary silversmith, Miriam Hanid, who has created work for the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, Eton College, New College Oxford, the V&A Museum and the National Museum of Wales.

8th Annual V&A Huguenot Lecture with Hanne Faurby (awaiting confirmation)

Wednesday 18th November – 13:00 (GMT)

Hanne Faurby, Curator at the V&A, will be discussing the remarkable talents of the Fabergé family. The V&A is a goldmine of information and artefacts pertaining to the Huguenot.

The last footsteps of 2020 will be hosted by Guide/Lecturer Paul Baker, who will highlight his favourite parts of Huguenot Spitalfields. He tells a good tale or two along the way.
