Huguenot Threads 9th to 20th July

Daily City Walks
11am every day 9th – 20th July.
Walk the alleyways of the City and capture the personalities of the Huguenots who were so influential. This City walk will visit some of the places associated with the Huguenots to discover how they contributed to the growth of London as the world's leading international financial centre. Meet by the Duke of Wellington statue in front of the Royal Exchange EC3. No booking necessary – just turn up and go. Maximum 50 minutes. £5 donation.
There are three walks in Spitalfields on the weekends of 12th/13th and 19th/20th July. Meet in front of Christ Church Spitalfields at 12noon, 2pm and 3pm. Donation £10.
Three lunchtime lectures at Christ Church Spitalfields
Wednesday 9th July: The Faith of the Huguenots with Revd. Andy Rider
Thursday 10th July: Religion and Immigration in Spitalfields from the Huguenots to Today with Dr. Daniel Nilsson DeHanas
Friday 11th July: Peter Prelleur and Richard Bryges’ Organ at Christ Church 1735 with Stephen Massil and Gerard Brooks.
All the above lectures will be held between 1:05 – 2:00pm and are free.
French Protestant Church Service
Sunday 13th July 10.30am service in French at Eglise Protestante Française de Londres, 8 Soho Square W1D, after which we will have coffee with Pastor Stephane Desmarais.
Rector’s Tour of Christ Church
Monday 14th July Revd. Andy Rider will take you on his personal tour of the church, including the crypt containing Huguenot vaults. 4pm – 6pm. Donation £20.
Huguenots of Note at two City Livery Halls
A rare opportunity to see the interior of two historic livery halls, which are opening for us during Huguenot Threads. Monday 14th July at 11am. View Huguenot silver (Paul de Lamarie) from the vaults at the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, 13 Foster Lane EC2. Wednesday 16th July Dr. Charles Littleton will tell us about two Huguenots of note (Gideon de la Laune and John Dollond), at the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, Blackfriars Lane EC4. 11am and if oversubscribed, a second tour will take place at 12noon, both talks free, booking essential.
Open Day at The Clockmakers’ Museum
Tuesday 15th July, an opportunity to visit a hidden gem in the centre of London, Guildhall Library, Aldermanbury Street EC2, 10am - 4pm. Brian de Save will be present between 2-4pm. Free.
Two Huguenot Field Marshals
Tuesday 15th July1.05pm – 2.00pm. Broadgate Welcome Centre, 3 Finsbury Avenue EC2. Learn about two outstanding Field Marshals of the British Army who had a key role in bringing William III to the throne. Talk by historian Dr Tony Heathcote. Free. In addition, the venue is well worth visiting as you will catch a glimpse of some of the world-class artwork at Broadgate.
Directions to Broadgate Welcome Centre From Liverpool Street Station:
Exit the station via Boots which leads o Broadgate’s Art piece ‘The Fulcrum’. Walk up the stairs towards 1-2 Broadgate and follow the path until you reach Finsbury Avenue Square. The Broadgate Welcome Centre entrance is next to UBS, 3 Finsbury Avenue Square.
And if you want to take a peek inside an 18c Huguenot home, visit Dennis Severs' house in Folgate Street, Town House in Fournier Street (lovely coffee and cakes) and the Eleven Princelet Street Gallery.
