We'll take a room-by-room, day in the life, tour of a Georgian household in Spitalfields, to eavesdroop on those living and working in the kitchen, parlour, bed chamber and garret.

Speaker Biography:

Sara Pennell is a historian of the seventeenth and eighteenth-century household, with a particular interest in domestic labour, foodways and health. She has written on subjects as diverse as recipe collections, mending Georgian china and second-hand furniture sales in early modern England, but most recently has published a book on the history of the English kitchen from 1600-1850. As a Londoner born within the sound of Bow bells, she has an especial love of the Thames, which she was born alongside and which she now lives and works alongside (in Richmond and Greenwich respectively).
