Huguenots of Clerkenwell

Although not as well-known as the Spitalfields and Soho settlements, Clerkenwell was another of the London areas where Huguenots came to live from the late 1600s onwards.

It was here that the skilled clockmakers, silversmiths and engravers, and jewellers made exquisite pieces, making London, for a time, the leading centre of these highly specialist instruments in the world.
