10th June - French Protestant Church Talk and Walk

 

To commemorate the 500 years of the Reformation, the French Protestant Church of London
is delighted to invite you on
Saturday 10 June at 6pm
to investigate, celebrate and remember the arrival, contribution and integration of the French Protestants
in London following the Reformation.
The talk will be given by Dr Tessa Murdoch,
V&A Museum, in conversation with Barbara Julien, Huguenot Society, and will be followed by a cocktail.

As part of the event Dr Tessa Murdoch invites you to join her to walk through Soho in the steps of the Huguenots by meeting her in front of the Church at 4pm.

Dr Tessa Murdoch received her PhD on ‘Huguenot artists, designers and craftsmen in Great Britain and Ireland, 1680-1760’ at Westfield College, University of London, 1982. At the Museum of London from 1981 she curated the exhibition The Quiet Conquest: The Huguenots 1685-1985. She was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in 1988. She joined the V&A in 1990, working in Furniture and Woodwork for eleven years before taking up the post of Deputy Keeper in the newly combined department of Sculpture, Metalwork, Ceramics and Glass in 2002. She is a Director of the French Hospital and a Trustee of the Huguenot Museum, Rochester.


Barbara Julien served as Honorary Secretary of the Huguenot Society from 2004-2009, and since then has chaired its Library and Archive Committee. In 2015 the Society published as volume 62 of its Quarto Series her book entitled 'The Consistory Minutes and Poor Relief Accounts of the French Church at Thorpe-le-Soken, 1683-1763.' She has recently contributed a chapter to the forthcoming publication of the Society's 2015 Conference papers, 'Huguenot Networks, the impact of a minority in Protestant Europe.
