17th July - Sudbury Visit

Set in the heart of the Stour Valley, the picturesque market town of Sudbury in Suffolk has for centuries been the prosperous centre of the weaving and silk industries. Today, the market town of Sudbury is regarded as Great Britain’s most important centre for silk manufacture producing nearly 95% of the nation’s woven silk textiles from its three working mills.  Historian David Burnett will show us what remains followed by a visit to Gainsborough House to see the exhibition 'Silk: From Spitalfields to Sudbury'.
