- Remembering Europe's French Huguenots - Launch Event

Info: 'The Big Weave' at Spitalfields Traders Market on Saturday 13th April will be the highlight of the Festival celebrating the Huguenots weavers community of Spitalfields. An exciting programme of activities and entertainment makes this a great day out for the whole family. Throughout the day from 10am to 5pm there will be -- Over 60 stalls to browse and buy
- Sheep from Hackney City Farm
- London Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyers show how fleece becomes yarn
- Have a go at weaving silk and cloth
- Demonstrations and workshops showing the various ways of weaving and hand-knotting of carpets
- Stitches in Time helping visitors make their own souvenir badge
- Try out circular, rag and table loom weaving
- Contribute to a large scale participatory weaving installation
- Search for your Huguenots ancestry
- Guided walks in historic Spitalfields
'Wax and Yarn' is a new composition by Nina Perry that explores the relationship between music and textiles, combining a musical interpretation of the rhythmic pattern, colour and design of cloth, weavers songs and a montage of recordings of weaving and loom operation. Follow her blog here
